Assembling the car

Upgrade for our vehicular on the Mongol Rally 2019.

A Polo is made for world trip by default. Still, we would like to pretty him up a bit.

First shock: We lost the exhaust pipe.

Even though the exhaust pipe was changed by the former owner, we lost the exhaust system but it was reattached quickly. .

Where to put the baggage? On the roof!

After a few setbacks like losing the exhaust pipe and the professional repair with welding wire we got to the fun part of the job. (At least I think so – I wasn’t there because I was sitting on my balcony 500 km far away… ;))

Thank’s to the generous donation by Fahrrad Beelmann we received three weatherproof aluminium boxes for our personal belongings. They are supposed to stay on the roof due to reasons of space and because it looks awesome.

Constructing the perfectly fitting roof rack for the Mongol Rally – an unicum!

We still needed a roof rack. The possible options were limited and not made for our undertaking. Thanks to Mesis knowhow we constructed a costum-made roof rack.

(Ready-made roof rack, fitting perfectly)

The roof rack was attached to the desert mobile and married to MOT-approved crossbars.

Afterwards it was loaded for test purposes.

Without knowhow and expert knowledge almost impossible – but our team’s mechanic managed to provide us a touch of comfort in the interior. We are now able to dump 100 kg up on the roof.

Combined with the aluminium boxes we now have more space and flexibility.

The question of the perfect color…

The vanishing of the roof rack and maybe some of the Polo’s add-on parts still had to be done…

…and the winner is GREEN!

Farewell and a good cause

Changing the company three months before the Mongol Rally? – Sure! 🙂

Caius and Tobi changed their employer three months before the rally. The new one is very relaxed and not only greenlighted the rally but also assured his support.

What had to be done next to a lot of paperwork? – Quite right, the farewell party with colleagues.

After 2,5 years in a growing sector, a lot of people came together. We didn’t celebrate our farewell party alone, it was 4 of us.

We talked to the other 2 guys to seize the party and drum up the business for the teilzeitabenteurer on the Mongol Rally. They liked the idea as much as we did, so we designed and printed some posters and flyers.

(It’s crazy how difficult it is to design proper flyers with Power Point… XD )

We rented a pub due to the numerous RSVPs and celebrated until the wee hours.

Teilzeitabenteurer Photoshoot for the Mongol Rally 2019

After we printed the logo on polo shirts, we can accept Ingas offer of a photo shoot.

Petrus, the weather god, meant well for us and gave us the last sunrays for a very cool outdoor shoot at the Epplesee – also known was “Baden’s Caribbean”. 🙂

There it is! The “Polo 86C 2F”

There it is, the fourth and most important team member on the Mongol Rally 2019. The Polo 86C 2F.

This jewel of German engineering art was born on 12th July 1991. It’s a space saver thanks to its hatchback and weighs only 765 kg tare due to the lightweight design “Fox”. Extras like a clock, trip meter, cigarette lighter, glove compartment door, lockable filler cap and hatrack are not on-board. We will probably exhaust the maximum vehicle load capactiy of 465 kg. But the admissable total weight of 1.230 kg is going to crest 4655 m above sea level on the Pamir Highway with the 45 HP, tearing at the fron axle. We are confident.

Welcome to the team!!!

New pictures online!

New pictures of the rally drivers.

Less than 500 days until the Mongol Rally 2019!

We are continuously working on our setup, our website, to find a car and our sponsoring.

Today: pictures on the website

Even though we didn’thave time yet for a fotoshoot with Inga, we still updated our pictures.

You can now gaze at our members on the team site.

Concerning the car, we were able to settle on a VW Polo 86C. A Search in the online jungle showed us many results and many repair instructions are available.
